Apple Exports in August 2026
In August 2026, European Union countries exported a total of 40,270 tonnes of apples. Although Asian countries, including India and Vietnam, account for only a small share of European fruit exports, producers from France, Italy and Poland, among others, are actively strengthening their presence in these markets.
According to the latest data from the European Commission [1], 148 tonnes of the EU’s total apple exports in August 2026 were shipped to India. By comparison, deliveries of European apples to the Indian market amounted to 300 tonnes during the same period of the previous season.
India remains one of the key and most promising Asian destinations for EU apple exports, with shipments to the country significantly exceeding the volumes sent to Vietnam. In August, the largest EU exporters to the Indian market were France and Italy, which shipped 85 and 64 tonnes of apples, respectively.
This year’s apple exports and trade are taking place against the backdrop of a significant decline in harvests across the European Union. According to estimates presented by WAPA at the Prognosfruit conference, total EU apple production in the 2026/2027 season is expected to fall below 10 million tonnes, reaching approximately 9.5 million tonnes. This represents a year-on-year decrease of around 16%. The main causes include extreme weather events such as spring frosts, heatwaves, droughts and hailstorms.
Although India and Vietnam still account for only a small fraction of EU apple exports, diversifying export destinations and maintaining a presence in promising Asian markets are becoming increasingly important for EU producers, including exporters from Poland, France and Italy, as Europe’s available apple supply continues to shrink.
