Anuga Select India 2024 – Promotion of European Apples in the Indian Market

India, with one of the largest populations in the world and a rapidly growing market, is becoming an increasingly attractive target for the export of European apples. The country, whose domestic production is insufficient, and which is also struggling with a fruit embargo from China, is opening up new opportunities for cooperation with European suppliers. The presence of representatives from the “Time for Apples from Europe in Asia” campaign at the Anuga Select India 2024 trade fair was absolutely essential!

Over 1,000 exhibitors from 46 countries and more than 45,000 visitors – these impressive figures prove that participating in this year’s Anuga Select India 2024 trade fair was a huge success. From August 28 to 30 in Mumbai, European apple exporters had the opportunity not only to showcase their products to Indian consumers but also to establish key business connections and better understand the needs of the local market.

As part of the promotional activities, a brochure in Hindi was prepared, which presented the main varieties of apples exported to India (Gala, Red Delicious, Red Jonaprince) and also described the production and export structure in the European Union countries. Campaign merchandise, including notebooks, pens, and campaign business cards, were also handed out to visitors at the booth.

The trade fair was also accompanied by an OOH (Out of Home) campaign – two large advertising banners encouraging the import of European apples. One was placed next to the Mumbai wholesale fruit and vegetable market (APMC Market), and the other was located on the busy Parsi Panchayat Road near the Mumbai Exhibition Center, where the fair took place. Both ads were prepared in Hindi to reach as many people as possible.

During their stay in Mumbai, the European apple exporters were also invited by one of the largest distributors and importers of fresh products in India, handling over 65,000 tons of fruits and vegetables annually and leading the Indian fresh produce sector through innovation, technology, and sustainable growth.

The delegation had the opportunity to visit the largest and most modern cold storage facilities and fruit sorting plants in India. During discussions, as well as two store checks (at the wholesale fruit market and in a supermarket), they familiarized themselves with current apple prices in India, basic information about the distribution chain, the characteristics of the Indian market, and the opportunities it presents.
